Project context
The setting
A WordPress environment showed multiple threat signals that required investigation before hardening decisions could be made.
Challenge
The problem to solve
Suspicious file modifications, unauthorised account attempts, vulnerable plugin versions, resource anomalies, and possible script injection created several plausible entry points.
My role and scope
What I was responsible for
I carried out the WordPress threat investigation, reviewed files and software exposure, and implemented the documented hardening actions.
Investigation and reasoning
- Ran malware scans and inspected suspicious file changes
- Reviewed account attempts and plugin versions
- Investigated resource anomalies and script injection indicators
Approach and implementation
- Removed or addressed the identified threat artefacts
- Updated vulnerable software within scope
- Applied practical WordPress hardening
- Established follow-up monitoring actions
Technical Scope
Technical Scope & Verification
Factual records of infrastructure troubleshooting, security hardening, and operational scope completed.
The record supports completion of the investigation and hardening scope. It does not support a claim that future threats were eliminated or that the site became completely secure.
- Scope
- Investigation + hardening
- Follow-up
- Monitoring planned
Evidence note
Existing security investigation record. Incident dates, raw logs, and a publishable remediation report are not stored in the portfolio.
Constraints and lessons
What this work made clear
- Hardening reduces risk but cannot eliminate future threats
- Suspicious files, accounts, software versions, and server behaviour need a joined-up review
